【摘要】:ThistestmethodprovidessufficientPCBdataformanyregulatoryrequirements.Whilethemostcommonregulatorylevelis50ppm(dryweightcorrected),lowerlimitsareusedinsomelocations.Sincesensitivitieswillvaryfordifferenttypesofsamples,oneshalldemonstrateasufficientmethoddetectionlimitforthematrixofinterest.ThistestmethoddiffersfromTestMethodD4059inthatitprovidesformoresampleclean-upoptions,utilizesacapillarycolumnforbetterpatternrecognitionandinterferencediscrimination,andincludesbothaqualitativescreeningandaquantitativeresultsoption.1.1Thistestmethodisatwo-tieredanalyticalapproachtoPCBscreeningandquantitationofliquidandsolidwastes,suchasoils,sludges,aqueoussolutions,andotherwastematrices.1.2TierIisdesignedtoscreensamplesrapidlyforthepresenceofPCBs.1.3TierIIisusedtodeterminetheconcentrationofPCBs,typicallyintherangeoffrom2to50mg/kg.PCBconcentrationsgreaterthan50mg/kgaredeterminedthroughanalysisofsampledilutions.1.4Thisisapatternrecognitionapproach,whichdoesnottakeintoaccountindividualcongenersthatmightoccur,suchasinreactionby-products.ThistestmethoddescribestheuseorAroclors1016,1221,1232,1242,1248,1254,1260,1262,and1268,asreferencestandards,butotherscouldalsobeincluded.Aroclors1016and1242havesimilarcapillarygaschromatography(GC)patterns.InterferencesorweatheringareespeciallyproblematicwithAroclors1016,1232,and1242andmaymakedistinctionbetweenthethreedifficult.1.5ThistestmethodprovidessamplecleanupandinstrumentalconditionsnecessaryforthedeterminationofAroclors.Gaschromatography(GC)usingcapillarycolumnseparationtechniqueandelectroncapturedetector(ECD)aredescribed.Otherdetectors,suchasatomicemissiondetector(AED)andmassspectrometry(MS),maybeusedifsufficientperformance(forexample,sensitivity)isdemonstrated.FurtherdetailsabouttheuseofGCandECDareprovidedinPracticesE355,E697,andE1510.1.6Quantitativeresultsarereportedonthedryweightsofwastesamples.1.7Quantificationlimitswillvarydependingonthetypeofwastestreambeinganalyzed.1.8Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorlimitationspriortouse.
